SCHOLARSHIPS

TURNING  100 IN 2019  !!

 The Ex-Students Association funds a number of special-purpose scholarships and awards for students of Dandenong High School , ranging through the whole ambit of student life.  These are funded in various ways, including from direct appeals to the membership;  specific donations from former students and /or their families; and through subscriptions,  general fund-raising, bequests, grants etc. Current scholarships being funded  are described here:

 EDNA DAWSON VUKMIROVIC MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

Founded in 1997, and awarded annually, for student(s) in  years 7 to 12, after taking into account a number of performance and attitudinal criteria, together with  the students’ personal circumstances, and as adjudicated by a panel of Dandenong High School and  Ex-Students’ Association representatives.


 MARTINI FAMILY AWARD

Founded in 2015, awarded annually for two to four students in years 9 & 10. The award recognizes the students’ conscientious approach to their studies, some  element of sporting activity, community involvement, and migrant background. This award has been donated by Mrs Isabel Martini, as a tribute to her late husband, Ekke Martini, student of the late 1950s and early 1960s, as well as to her late father-in-law, Ziggy Martini, Phys Ed Teacher at DHS for much the same period.


MARY CAMERON AWARD

First awarded at the annual Badges Assembly in early 2018, this scholarship is valued at $500 per student, per year, for two students at year 11 level, and going through to year 12, a total of $2000.  Mary, a student from 1962 to 1966, has made this donation as a means of "repaying the School for the wonderful education she received at DHS" in the 1960s.  The award will be for 5 consecutive years, and be for one boy and one girl, upon successful completion of year 10, together with other criteria that will be made available on application.


 DR. JOHN FARANDS ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

First awarded at the annual Badges Assembly in 2017, this is a three-year  award, made annually to the most successful year 7 candidate completing the SEAL (accelerated learning) entrance examination.  The award is made by the late Dr Farrands' family, in memory of the ex-student of the late 1930s, who went on to become Australia's Chief Scientist.  His wife, Jessica (Ferguson) was Girls' Head  Prefect in the same period,. She was present  at the 2017 AGM, where her son, Don Farrands LLB, was Guest Speaker.


DANDENONG FESTIVAL ARTS AWARD

Founded in 2014, awarded annually to the most outstanding student, regardless of year level, in this field.


DANDENONG FESTIVAL DRAMA AWARD

Founded in 2014, awarded annually to the most outstanding student, regardless of year level, in this field.


BRUCE RAYMENT MUSIC AWARD

Founded in 1997, awarded annually in memory of an outstanding DHS principal, to one student, at any level,  making outstanding progress.
